Cosmetics
Overview
Anticounterfeit and Anti diversion
Counterfeiting in the cosmetics sector has significant economic and socio-health consequences and causes huge losses to manufacturers: according to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in Europe alone, counterfeit cosmetics cause substantial losses in sales of €3 billion, representing approximately 4.8% of total sales in the sector. Furthermore, the impact extends to employment, with an estimated loss of nearly 32000 jobs in the EU cosmetics industry. The cosmetics sector is also heavily affected by the grey market, one of the most complex challenges for brands, as well as market diversion, which can cause serious economic losses to companies and damage the original positioning of a product. Being able to uniquely identify and track individual units makes it possible to combat these phenomena very effectively, making it more difficult to divert goods to unauthorised markets or sellers and providing users with much more information. Our technologies enable individual units to be marked and tracked, acting as a serious barrier against these phenomena.
Digital Product Passport
As required by the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the cosmetics industry will be increasingly transformed by the Digital Product Passport (DPP), an informative digital document that contains comprehensive information about a product’s entire lifecycle, including unique product identifier and compliance documentation (e.g. material composition, performance data, environmental and social impact information). The DPP will therefore collect interoperable data on composition, regulatory compliance throughout the product’s entire lifecycle and environmental impacts. In the cosmetics world, brands will therefore be able to accurately track flows between countries and channels. The solutions we have developed enable us to create unique codes that are perfectly in line with these market demands.
